Those working in fields relating to death and dying know that not everyone has equal access to a healthy grieving process. Grieving takes time, a support network, and often professional care and mental health services. This quilt is an imaginary tool to make space and time for those who are not privileged to have them. An offering for those who work long hours and are not able to get time away from their jobs. For those who have many children or other responsibilities and cannot find time to work through their own feelings of loss. An acknowledgement that not everyone has healthcare or mental health care access for when they need someone to talk to, to listen

While the blanket does not itself function in this way, its presence here reminds us of these differences and to take care of each other the best we can. We can imagine someone wrapping themselves inside of it, and finding a world where these inequities are resolved and they have the support they need. We see symbols of care: A bed to rest in, warm soup for sustenance, a place to catch our tears, a candle for hope. The large hour glass is an offering of time, and the bottom circle contains a magical symbol (sigil) designed with letters spelling out “Time and Space to Grieve.”
